What Are The Drug Interactions Between Multivitamin And Plavix?
My mom has had numerous strokes and is now on Plavix. She is not eating well and though we constantly offer snacks and nutritional drinks such as Ensure, she is down to 98 pounds. I d like to give her a general mutlivitamen but wanted to know if it would adversely affect the plavix. She is 76 years old and bed/chair bound. Thanks,

Plavix contains clopidogrel which belongs to the group of medications known as antiplatelet or anticoagulant medications is used to prevent platelets in your blood from sticking together to form an unwanted blood clot that could block an artery. Plavix is used to lower your risk of having a stroke, blood clot or serious heart problem after you have had a heart attack, severe chest pain or angina or circulation problems. For most patients, the typical dose of Plavix is 75 mg by mouth once daily. How long you have to take Plavix for depends on your other medical problems.
Some people need to take Plavix for just a few months, but others might need it for the rest of their lives. Don't stop taking Plavix unless your doctor has told you to do so. Don't start any new medications, herbal medicine or supplements without first talking to your doctor. No interactions were found between multivitamin and Plavix. So, your patient can take multivitamins while taking Plavix.
