Hello. Thank you for writing to us
STD's can appear at various times after a risky sexual encounter.
Few like Herpes,
Gonorrhea, Chlamydia may present within a week or so after infection whereas Others like Syphilis, Genital Warts,
Molluscum may present weeks or months after infection.
Therefore it is important to get tested at appropriate intervals to determine the possibility of infection.
Testing for HIV and Syphilis can be done earliest at 1 month after sexual contact and should be repeated at 3 months for a conclusive result; for
Herpes Simplex Virus, a
blood test can detect
antibodies to the virus earliest at 2 weeks.
Moreover, if you develop any urethral discharge, burning sensation on passing urine, ulcers/erosions, warts or lumps in the genital area, you must get yourself checked with a venereologist.
