What Are The Effects Of CT Scan Radiation In A Baby?
Hi, my 14 month old baby had a fall from a height, about 3 feet, yesterday. She was taken to the hospital to rule out head injury, since she was drowsy for some time. according to her paediatrician linical findings were normal, but to exept the case neurologist recommended ct scan head and spine. We did ct scan and the results shows no abnormality. Now I am worried about the effect of radiation on baby. Is there an increased risk of cancer due to single ct scan? Is there any ways to reduce the effect of radiation in baby?
Hello, thanks for posting on HCM. There is certain amount of radiation exposure during CT scan of body. But in case of head injury it is crucial to look for any damage to the brain and skull which CT can pick up. So if you see the weightage of importance doing CT to look for any brain damage is more important than worrying about radiation exposure and its effects. And as such effect of single CT exposure is far much less than multiple repeated exposures to CT. So, do not be worried about effects of exposure to radiation as it is very negligible. I hope I have given satisfactory answer to your query, if you still have any more query kindly write back to me and I will be happy to help. Thank you
