What Are The Effects Of Taking Diamox Tablets During Pregnancy?
My son s wife just had their first baby. A specialist who saw her two days before they induced saw a space in the baby s head that he said was larger than normal. They are doing a sonogram today and will get results back tomorrow. The mom was on Diamox throughout the entire pregnancy. Could this have caused the space to be larger than normal. What affects can the Diamox and the larger space have on my grandchild? Sharon redman
Diamond is prescribed for idiopathic intracranial hypertension. There is no convincing evidence for an adverse effect for Diamox use in human pregnancy, even when prescribed prior to the 13th week of gestation. While the liberal use of Diamox should be avoided during pregnancy, this medication should remain a treatment option in pregnant women when clinically indicated.
So, most probably Diamox is not the causative factor for the claimed larger than normal baby head. Please wait untill the next sonography to confirm if any birth defect present.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
