Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor. My daughter had an episode of a seizure in her 5th month. She had very bad cold and nose block and was going breathless often due to this. She awoke one morning staring in front with no reaction and regained her consciousness when we slapped her on her back. We rushed her to a paediatrician who initially thought it was Aspiration. A few hours later she again had similar symptoms of collapsing in our arms and we were asked to take her to a neurologist who put her on 4 ml of Gardenal twice a day for 2 days. We were asked to continue this for a month and return. Her EEG showed a slight electric activity but MRI was clear. Worried about the Gardenal dosage we approached Dr. Suresh Rao Aroor who asked us to continue 2 ml twice a day dosage for 4 more weeks and return. After 4 weeks, he asked us to give her 2ml in the day and 3ml in the night for another 6 weeks. We told him that she has had no more episodes of seizures since that day and is doing fine. He examined her and he too told us that she's fine. However for reasons known only to him he asked us to follow the revised dosage for 6 weeks more!. We are unable to get an appointment again to meet him to see if I can start weaning my baby off the Gardenal. Its been more than a month that I have been trying to seek a meeting with him but to no avail. My daughter is being administered this medicine for so long and I am very worried about its side-effects on her body and on her future. Appreciate if someone can guide us properly on this. Regards, Vania
