What Are The Most Common Causes Of Coronary Stent Failure?
I was told I have Atherosclerosis Coronary Disease. my question is I had a stent put in the left side of my main artery, which they call the Widow maker, and 5 weeks later I go back in to find out the stent collapse because they found another branch from the main left artery completely blocked. The doctor told me they found no other blockages after the first procedure was completed, so are u telling me the artery can become block that fast?

That made the entire industry of stents. when balloon insertion and opening of blockage was first invented in the 1980's 1 in three of those getting the procedure had it fail in under a week. Stents hold it open and lowered that number over 90%.
Now, the risk of NEW block versus STENT failure is about the same and can't easily be distinguished. It's usually blamed on stent failure unless it is a new part of the heart and this is random to choose that cause. So, stents are likely really good but failure if it would occur should be expected in a week or less and new blockage not from the stent is weeks/months/years. BUT if they know the blockages weren't all fixed from the stent. I can't say, but more likely the weeks/months/years.
