What Are The Negative Effects Of Having High Iron Levels In Blood?
Hi. I had GilliamBerrat syndrome 2 years ago. Treatment was Iminoglobulin infusion for 10 days. I am recovering and at about 90%. I go to the doctor every 90 days for blood work as I spend a half the year in China working and have high cholesterol which is very under control with stantin drugs. Now all of the sudden 3 blood tests ago, my doctor said I have developed high iron levels in the blood. The nurse practitioner scarred me and my family saying it was hemochromatosis. My doc seems a little stumped. Levels were still up in June, but my liver functions are normal. What is considered high iron levels, and what should I talk to my doctor about for treatment. I really do not want to get bleed every 6 months, are their SAFE medications for this?
First things first, there is no such thing as safe medicine. If you do not want to undergo the said treatment, discuss with your doctor regarding the same or seek a hematologist's opinion.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Harshita, Ophthalmologist
