What Are The Other Treatment Options Apart From Liver Transplant For Familial Hypercholesterolemia In Children?

Hi Doctor. My son is 13 years old. He suffers from familial hypercholesterolemia. the LDL level is about 750 mg/dl. He takes Crestor 20 mg daily but he does not responds to the treatement.
I wonder if Liver transplantation is the solution for his problem. thank you very much for your help

I understand your worries about your child. However, liver translaplantation is only indicated based on clinical parameters of your son and not just on lack of response to the treatment.

Please bare in mind that transplantation itself would require long-time immunodepression which can have other negative effects on your child's health.

Please keep following up with his pediatritian for best treatment option!
