Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Possibilities Of Catching Klebsiella Pneumonia?
I m reviewing a healthcare record for a any quality concerns and I ve come across the patient having the diagnosis of Klebsiella pneumonia on day 18 of a hospital stay. Would you be concerned that the infection was a quality concern from a lack of infection control or is it possible that the patient could of aspirated when they were intubated?
Both possibilities can stand. A further analysis and tests are required especially when it comes to taking samples from intubation tubes and other apparatus used. Please take note that long staying in hospital carries the risk of nosocomial infections which can aggravate the health problems of the patient. And here, the closed circle starts, and they turn to be more difficult to manage. But, we cannot blame the health staff for this.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
