What Are The Possible Effects Of Starting Dilitiazem?

I suffer from PVC s and recently saw a cardiologist, I did the halter monitor and stress test and the stress test was passed. Electrolytes were ok. I have been on Metoprolol for at least 4 years I take 50 mg Bid and also take Norvasc 5mg at night time . I take these for blood pressure and I have a tendency towards mild tacycardia. Recently I have been having the PVC s regularly especially under stress situations. My cardiologist wants me to start Dilitiazem 24 hour ER everyday. When I asked him about weaning off of the Metoprolol tartrate. He said not to worry about it and that it is not a large dose and to just start the Dilitizem. I have not started the Dilitiazem yet because of fear of abruptly stopping the Metoprolol (afraid of side effect of this). I really want to try the Dilatizem to see it it helps my PVC situation. I read you cannot take these drugs together . How should I handle the transition?

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Tab metoprolol is also a good drug for PVCs. The dose you are taking is relatively higher dosage. Sudden stoppage will results in rebound Tachycardia even with taking deltiazem.

So my advice will be stop the evening dosage of metoprolol frst and start tab deltiazem simultaneously. You can take both tab simultaneously.. After 10 days again reduce the metoprolol to 25mg a day and then gradually stop.
Start deltiazem also from half dose only and gradually increase it.
