Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I was prescribed Tetralysal 300 mg for my acne and I m rather scaref taking it after hearing about all of the side affects and how long it take for it to work. Is it worth taking? My real question is am I allowed to consume alcohol while on the medication? Can I drink one night and skip a dose?
Acne is a disease of the hair follicles of the face, chest, and back Acne occurs when sebaceous (oil) glands attached to the hair follicles are stimulated at the time of puberty or due to other hormonal changes. Acne usually improves around the age of 20, but may persist into adulthood. Instead of Tetralysal, you can use doxycycline which is a safer antibiotic. Do not drink alcohol along with it as it will cause addition gastrointestinal side effects. Taking antibiotics irregularly causes development of resistance. So do not interrupt your treatment. Advice 1. Apply locally clindamycin 1% solution/gel at bed time for a month 2. Doxycycline 50 mg per oral daily for 1 month 3. Use Acne aid soap three time daily for cleaning your face 4. Do not squeeze pimples as it will cause scarring 5. Try to avoid use of unbranded cosmetics unnecessarily Thanks
