What Are The Possible Side Effects Of Taking Amitriptyline For Lower Back Pain?
I nave been prescribed amitriptyline for lower back pain. After reading about this drug and possible side effects I am not sure I want to take a chance taking this medication. It is so scary to read possible side effects of this medication. What is your advise. Seems like this medication is for depression and mental disorders.

Amitriptyline is a drug which is usually used to treat depression .It can also be used to treat conditions which produces severe pain.
I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERN AND YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE.
Even though amitriptyline and other TCA ARE PRESCRIBED FOR CHRONIC PAIN, i would suggest you to first take simple medications like a combination drug of PARACETAMOL + BRUFEN AND REGULAR EXERCISES FOR YOUR BACK INCLUDING PHYSIOTHERAPY.
IF THE PAIN STILL EXISTS AND IS SEVERE AND YOU CANNOT MANAGE IT, THEN YOU CAN GO FOR AMITRIPTYLINE AND OTHER TCA , because the mechanism of action of these drugs is complex and is not well understood and sometimes it can lead to unwanted side effects.
hope i have explained my point ...take care..
