What Are The Reasons For Lighter Periods And Bloating And Pain Stomach While On Depo?
Hi I was very drunk Saturday night and we had sexual intercourse for a long amount of time and many different positions without realising I was having a light period( I m on the depo) Next morning I woke with awful stomach ache and my lower stomach has been bloated for two days now and when I eat or drink I feel very full. So worried!
The main question is whether you had this period (though lighter) at expected time or it was intermenstrual spotting!
Depo is a Progesterone preparation. Its full name is Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA). It is a long acting Progesterone preparation and is given quarterly.
The withdrawal bleeding after progesterone is lesser in quantity. So if you have got menses at the expected time, lighter bleeding can be attributed to Progesterone. It does not call for any treatment. If it is intermenstrual bleeding, it also can be due to Progesterone as it may cause intermenstrual spotting. If such intermenstrual spotting becomes a botheration, then you have to switch over to some other type of birth control pills.
Bloating need not be related to number of intercourse or pregnancy. It can very well be due to alcohol drinking causing stomach acidity causing stomach ache also. Some antacid like Tums may help you.
I hope this gives you required information.
