What Are The Repercussions Of Inhaling Paint Fumes?
What is the protocol for inhaled paint fumes? Earlier this week I was spray painting a bookcase outside under a tree. It was slightly windy. I do have pollen allergies. But the past few days I have had shortness of breath, hacking cough, chest hurting from coughing, tired/breathless from any exertion. I am afraid it is due to paint fumes.
It contain two things to be worried about. One is lead which is part of many paints but the amount you consumed less likely to cause toxicity of lead but if so neurological examination and blood counts to see blood counts and hemoglobin may be needed. Other thing is the solvent for the paint which is usually oil based and contains hydrocarbon whose inhalations can cause air way problems and may need a chest X-ray to rule out any such implications. But if you have history of allergies likely cause of symptoms in your case is due to allergic reaction and not due to toxicity. In that case oral anti histamines and steroids as well as decongestants may be needed.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
