What Are The Repercussions Of Spray Painting During Pregnancy?
Hi, I am 23 weeks pregnant and was too impatient to wait for my husband to do a small spray painting project outside. So I did and held my nose the whole time to avoid much of the smell. But I m too paranoid and want to know the risk from someone who knows. How at risk is my baby?
The exposure of most modern house hold spray painting is unlikely to cause any harmful effects during pregnancy.
However, the risk of harmful effects may increase if the solvent-based spray painting which contains traces of lead is being used.
A pregnant woman's exposure to high lead levels can be hazardous to the baby, because lead in a mother's blood can easily cross the placenta to the fetus and it can cause severe adverse outcomes such as gestational hypertension, spontaneous abortion, low birth weight, and mental retardation.
If you have used lead free spray painting there is nothing to worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
