What Are The Repercussions Of Taking Wrong Dosage Of Monofeme Postpartum?

I just got my first period on saturday since having my baby 14 weeks ago & i started taking the pill (monofeme) but i just realised i started in wrong section! I started taking the red pills instead of white ones in shaded section. Do i just stop taking red ones and start in shaded section from today? Will this muck up mu cycle? Thank you

Hi,

You may not be protected against pregnancy. Monofeme is an oral combined contraceptive pill commonly used to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. The blister pack consists of 21 "active" white tablets (which contain the hormones) and 7 "placebo" red tablets (which may contain iron salts).

Since you have taken red tablet by mistake, you may now start taking one white tablet each day, following the arrows so that you are taking the correct tablet for the day of the week until all 21 white tablets have gone then take remaining red tablets each day for the remaining days. You will have a 'withdrawal' bleeding during the week of red tablet. Remember you need to use a backup birth control method (like condoms) for first 7 days of starting white tablets.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
