What Are The Risk To Fetus When Conception Occurred During Chicken Pox Infection?
i am 25 yrs female , got married before 53 days . during my marriage i was infected with chicken pox . the scars and lesions dissapeared only 10 days after my marriage .I have a irregular period mostly . After marriage i never had my periods . when i did my urine pregnancy test , i found i am pregnant .i am afraid if i had conceived when i was still infected with the virus . will this chicken pox virus affect my baby . please advice...
The chances of fetus being affected by a pregnant mother who is having chicken pox,are minimal except that baby faces a slight risk of a rare group of serious birth-defects known as congenital varicella syndrome. This risk is minimal if the infection is before 20 weeks of pregnancy.
It is in the range of 0.5 to 1% if the infection is before 12 weeks of pregnancy. In your case, even if the infection is there, it must be at the most within first 2 weeks,as you were having chicken pox at the time of your marriage. Therefore chances of your fetus being affected by this infection are almost nil.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
