What Are The Risks Of MRSA Transmission One Week After Infection?

A coworker of mine was recently told that she has mrsa. Her form of mrsa is in her lungs. She claims that her doctor said she could return to work. She would need to be careful when she sneezed, coughed or blew her nose and wash her hands well. She is not wearing a mask. Does this sound like she should have been able to return to work? She works with myself and two other coworkers in close quarters as well as with the public. I am concerned about exposure and the risk of transmission. She is not a hygienic person.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is difficult to predict without a sputum examination whether she is in infective stage or not. Usually patient gets out of the infective stage within few days of antibiotic course however it difficult to be sure about the time period without a test. I would advise you to wear a mask if you are unable to convince her to use one and take all precautions like washing hands etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
