What Are The Risks Of Having An Overdue Pregnancy?

i was 4 cm dilated on the 25th. my ob wanted to do a sweep but it hurt too much to do so. im now past my due date, but im still only getting braxton hicks contractions. granted, more often, like every hour to two hours. but i can walk through them. i have had a perfectly normal pregnancy, with the only mild concern of placenta previa that was less than 2 cm low until i was 6 months along. should i be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is common for delivery to be delayed beyond week 40. On the other hand, careful monitoring by the doctor is needed in these cases to make sure the baby is doing well. If you are dilated 4 cm you are towards the end of phase one of delivery (initial dilation of the cervix). You may start phase two (the active labor) from any moment.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj,
