What Are The Side Effects And Risks Of Stopping Azilect?
what are the side effects and risks when you stop taking Azilect? My father is recommended to stop the drug completely, but i want to be sure we either reduce the dosage slowly if he should not stop completely all at once. My Dad has Parkinson s disease, and it s his Neurologist who put him on Azilect, and now she wants him to stop it completely to see how it affects him.
Azilect(rasagiline) should not be stopped abruptly or a rapid dose reduction is also not recommended. It may precipitate withdrawal symptoms. Dose reduction should be slow and with extreme caution. It's not clear from your description whether your father is on other medications for Parkinson's disease. If my patient is stable on Azilect monotherapy, I would have reduced the dose with carefully monitoring. I would not recommend an abrupt stoppage in that scenario. Hope the above information helps. Thanks.
