What Are The Side Effects Of Acyclovir, Gabapentin And Zovira Cream For Shingles On A Octogenarian?

My mom is 85 yrs old and is on Lisinopril, Metoprolol, Toporol and today was diagnosed with the shingles. The doctor at the urgent care clinic prescribed Acyclovir 400 mg, Gabapentin 1000 mg, and Zovira cream. I wanted to know if these will have any effects with the other drugs she has to take daily.

Hi,
Generally there will not be any interactions with her regular drugs. However, at her age of 85, 1000 mg of gabapentin can produce so many side effects like sedation, ataxia and vomitings and hence it should be given with caution.
It is best to start with 300 mg and increase over time for her to accustom to the drug before she achieves therapeutic goal i.e pain relief.
