Hello doc. i had an outbreak all over my intire back which looked like chicken pox and were very itchy.. so i went to my doctor and he took one quick glance at my back from behind his very thick glasses and said it looks like back herpes. he did no tests on me and just wrote me a rx for ACYCLOVIR. i have no other bumps, or burning anywhere else. i researched back herpes on the internet and none of them looked like my back.. my question is, if my doc mis-diagnosed me, am i in any danger from taking these meds?? he did no tests on me, and he is very old and has given me the wrong meds before (sulfa meds which proved to be allergic for me)
Hello You consulted an old DOCTOR ( according to you he is old ) . He prescribed "aciclovir " , this is an antiviral drug and effective in most of herpes simplerx, zoster ( shingles ) chicken pox, HSV besides many other viral disease. Mild nausea, vomiting , diarrhea rash may occurs due to this drug . This is very safe antiviral drug and dose is 400-800 mg 5 times in day for 5 days . Your doctor is wise and in my opinion he advised you right medicine . Take these medicines and you will see that disease is responding to this treatment . Sulfa may react to anybody , this was not a doctor fault. Good luck.
