I am a 22yr old female. A few months back I suspected I had ADHD. I have never been formally seen, diagnosed, or treated for this issue. I am a healthcare professional and found that through a friend I could easily accsess the ADHD medication Adderall. I initially saw a huge improvement in productivity, however I have since built up an immense immunity to the drug. I am currently taking 60-80mg daily and I believe I am addicted to this drug. If I withdrawl or attempt to ween myself from Adderall I go into almost a comatose state. I have previously slept an uninterupted 36 once due to lack of Adderall. I have made an appt. with a psychiatrist next month my question is what do I say to him to get the help I need. Do I state what I have just said above? Do I use what I medically know to get myself offically prescribe to an ADHD med? If I tell him the truth what actions will he take in order to help me cope with the withdrawl?
Hello! Adderall is a combination of two nervous system stimulants. You shouldn't have taken it without a psychiatrist evaluation and the professional confirmation that you had ADHD. The maximal advised daily dose is 60mg, so at least you should try not to exceed it. I'm glad you have set theappointment with the psychiatrist and i'm sure he/she would be able to help you properly. I think you should be completely sincere and tell him everything from the begining for him to be able to make an evaluation if it really was ADHD. and also tell the need you had to increase the dose. The drug is known to have tolerance and addiction properties. So you have to tell in details the need you had to increase the dose and the attempts to withdrawl. The withdrawl symptoms last 5 to 3 weeks, in people who used the drug for less than a year. I hope i have been helpful and that you can cope well with the withdrawl.
