Hi & Welcome.
These are new drugs which belong to the class of drugs called Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors.
However, Apoquel (Oclacitinib) tablet is effective in controlling itching associated with allergies and hence used for the treatment of chronic manifestations of
atopic dermatitis in dogs.
Its side effects include diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, and/or lethargy. There can be an increased risk of infections in dogs treated with Oclacitinib.
Whereas Tofacitinib (Xeljanz) is a biologic agent used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe, active
rheumatoid arthritis who have not responded well to being treated with
Methotrexate.
It may be used alone or in combination with Methotrexate or other disease modifying anti-rheumatoid drugs.
Its most common side effects are upper
respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, headache,
nasal congestion, sore throat and runny nose.
It can also lower body’s ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis, infections caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses that can spread throughout the body.
