What Are The Side Effects Of Atorvastatin?

I am 4 6 and 80lb. I am 81 yr. old and hae recently been diagnosed with cerebrovascular disease. My Doctor perscribed 40 mg Atorvastin. Because of ny size and worried about side effecte I asked if I could take 1/2 pill 20 mg. I am having constipation and am concerned because I am a colon cancer survivor of 5yr. What other drug might work? Sorry for the typos!! I also take Plaquenil for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Phyllis YYYY@YYYY

I can understand your worry.

Atorvastatin is relatively a safe drug, however it can cause inflammation of muscles, liver in some patients.
Inflammation of the muscles can be suspected if the patient starts getting muscle pain, tender muscles and increased creatine kinase level in the lab investigation.
Inflammation of the liver can be suspected if the patient gets abdominal pain fever, raised liver enzymes and bilirubin.

Regarding the constipation, you must increase your fluid intake, vegetables, daily walking, etc.
