Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had my bone density test and my doctor has recommended Bovia Injections every 6 mos. What are the side affects and is this a good treatment?I am 73 years of age and in very good health, blood pressure, etc.take no medication with the exception of Levoxin for Thyroid. Concerned about future side affects.
Assuming you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, Boniva would be a good medication for treating this and helping to prevent bone fractures. Usually, patients do not have any serious side effects, but if they do, it usually is upset stomach, back pain, and sometimes can increase the risk for respiratory infections. It can also cause blood pressure to go up, headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and occasionally many other side effects. But for you, I would consider it worth the risks, and you can at least try it and if it causes a lot of problems, you can always stop it or switch to another medication.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
