Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 67 year old female and have been taking 40 mg of quinapril daily for 5 plus years for high blood pressure. Recently my doctor added hydrochlorot 25 mg daily to better reduce my bp. This morning I accidently took 1/2 tablet of clonidine 0.1mg by mistake. (Kept on hand if needed in case of dangerously high bp and never used.) My current bp reading is 79 over 54. I am resting comfortably and waiting for the clonidine 0.1mg to wear off. I feel tired but no other side effects. Should I take any other action?
A blood pressure of 79/54 is on the very much lower side. This could cause severe hypotension and can lead to circulatory shock. Do not take any medication accidentally as it can cause many undesirable outcomes. Check your blood pressure again. If you still feel dizzy kindly rush to a general practitioner nearby you.
The common side effects of the Clonidine are as follows:
1) Dizziness which is very common
2) Dry mouth
3) A headache
4) Orthostatic hypotension (pressure changes or drop with a change in your posture)
5) Somnolence.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Melita Wesley,
General & Family Physician
