Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a cortisone shot in both knees due to two falls with subsequent pain...the Dr. determined I had arthritis and this was aggravated due to the falls. About a week after receiving them...I had some spells of racing heart which has now increased to almost daily after 4 weeks. I also have extreme insomnia. I previously had very severe reactions to prednisone years ago ..given for sinus issues. I was told not to take oral steroids in the future. That was on my allergy chart to the Dr. He said shots in the joints are different. Please comment on the systemic affects of these knee joint shots and if this response could be from the shots...and how long will this last or what can I do to eliminate them.
Some of the side effects of a cortisone shot can be :
-Acne, dry skin, or thinning skin.
-Bruising or discoloration of the skin.
-Insomnia.
-Mood changes.
-Increased sweating.
-A headache and dizziness.
-Nausea, stomach pain, or bloating.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
