What Are The Side Effects Of Hydroxychloroquine?

Yes. I have been taking Celecoxib (Celebrix) 200mg for a few years and have recently been diagnosed with OArthritis. I just saw a new rheumatologist who has prescribed Hydroxychloroquine 200mg. I am concerned about taking both, along with a few other medications I am taking. I mentioned this to both, and there seems no concerns, however I am still worried. Could this cause any side effects?

Hi,

Hydroxychloroquine is a prescription drug that is used to treat lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to prevent and treat malaria by killing the parasites that cause the disease. It is believed that Hydroxychloroquine affects how your immune system works which may be a benefit in lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Side effects of Hydroxychloroquine are nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, stomach cramps, ringing in the ear or tinnitus, hearing loss, sore throat, bronchospasm, unusual bleeding or bruising, blue black skin color, muscle weakness, hair loss or changes in hair color, abnormal mood changes, suicidal thoughts, feeling nervous or irritable, weight loss, allergic reactions etc. If these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor immediately for medical attention.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
