Ive been exposed to TB I took a chest xray and don t have it. Ive been prescribed isoniazid 300 mg to take for 9 months how come the doctor that told me that I was exposed didn t tell me to take this I went to a clinic this a.m. and the clinic prescribed me this I m also afraid of the side effects. my email is YYYY@YYYY thank you.
Hi, As you have been exposed to TB, your doctor considered the possibility of latent infection, and hence put you on TB drug. Normal chest X Ray does not rule out TB. The only point here is " Do you make a case of latent TB ". If yes, then your doc is correct, and you have to use isoniazid 300 for 9 months. The side effects are nausea, vomitings, jaundice, pains, rash, abdominal pain etc. Hope this helps.
