Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
At the age of 66, I was out of touch with children, over a 4-5 day period of time, I began having seizures, petite mal in nature, mostly facial. I was taken to ER where they ran complete battery of tests. As a child I had several severe head injuries. I was put on Keppra. After 2 months, I began to come out of the darkness. Last week, even though the 500mg tabs had been working well, The neurologist increased the dose to 1000mg bid. What side affects might I experience with this increase? Diarrhea? Any others? I have never had problems as a result of the head injuries
Keppra contains levetiracetam which is relatively a newer anti-epileptic. This drugs has a number of side effects however a few adverse effects are important like tiredness, headache, infection, increased blood pressure, increase sleep, drowsiness, fatigue, anorexia and cough. However, most of the times, these effects are uncommon and it is a safe drug.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
