Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been prescribed Meloxicam. The Pharmacists gave me written side effects along with the tablets prescribed, The side effects include heart attack, stroke etc. in some cases within a week. I m not comfortable in taking this medicine. What are your thoughts?
Meoxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). NSAIDs cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, including heart attack and stroke. This risk may occur early in treatment and may increase with duration of use. This is applicable to all NSAIDs except paracetamol. Therefore this warning is given in label. Persons with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes are at risk for cardiovascular side effects. Why you have been prescribed meloxicam you have not written here. Anyway, better pain killers such as ibuprofen are available. You can try. Advice 1. Ibuprofen 600 mg orally after meal 2. Avoid taking for longer period 3. Avoid smoking and alcohol along with any pain killer Thanks
