What Are The Side Effects Of Memantine In Vascular Dementia Patients?
Hi ,my husband has just been diagnosed with vascular dementia and prescribed Memantine as he is unable to take the normal recommended medication which lowers heart/pulse rates . Is it safe ,as I have read it is not used for people with mild Alzeimers or vascular dementia ?

I am sorry about your husbands diagnosis.
Memantine is used as a first ine regime in Uk and USA.
But in the recent studies and practices this drug is not much useful in Alzheimer.
Recently introduced drugs such as Rivastigmine and Donepezil are effective compared to Memantine.
I suggest you to consult your Physician about the reason for which he is avoiding these new regimes to your husband.
