Hi doctor my mother is taking microcid tablets for painful jaws. does this tablet have any side effects. she was asked to take this tablet regularly. her nature of pain is she will get pain when she chews food or opens her mouth for food. when she bends and brushes or haves food she will get relief. please advise
Microcid (indomethacin) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly prescribed used for short-term relief of pain, inflammation, and swelling associated with joints and muscles. Its common side effects include vomiting, dyspepsia, stomach irritation or ulcer, and indigestion. On prolonged use it may also affect the kidneys by causing injury. I advise you to consult her treating doctor for an alternative effective but a safer medication to avoid the above side effects.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
