Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello, i am a 58 year old male with symptoms of extreme fatigue. i went to an ent and he diagnosed me with candida yeast infection, with no tests to back up the diagnosis. he put me on nizoral and referred me to a book called the yeast connection. the nizoral is causing severe stomach upset. i checked online and found out that the fda warns of liver problems with this drug and does not recommend it. while i believe that a change of diet is recommended for me (eliminating simple sugars and carbs), i am beginning to question his diagnosis and rx choice. later i found out that this doctor believes that all diseases are caused by candida. not sure what to believe at this point. thanks
It would be best to consider seeing another doctor for a second opinion and also consider discontinuing the medication if there is no obvious sign of yeast infection- rash on the skin, coating on tongue etc.
As you stated, the medication can affect the liver. In cases of fatigue, blood tests such as complete blood count and ESR (checks for inflammation in the body) and thyroid function tests, should be done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
