Dear doc, i am 37 yrs. and had an ectopic pregnancy 6 weeks ago where i took out my right side fallopian tube. The doc recommend that i use novelon contraceptive to prevent another pregnancy. Is that ok? Does novelon inteferes with your hormones to cause a bad side effect? Is it harmful in any way?
Novelon is a combination of two drugs used for contraception. As these drugs consist synthetic hormones, therefore, increasing the level of these hormones in the body. This raised level of hormones may definitely cause some unwanted effects like weight gain, falling of hairs, acne or darkening of skin, breast tenderness, increased BP etc., and in rare cases embolism causing some serious effects like deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke or heart attack. However, these effects are mainly temporary and resolve themselves with stoppage of drug. Your doctor seems right in prescribing you this drug weighing the risks vs benefits of it.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
