Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Primidone cause side effects like hearing imaginary things? Today during a nap I heard my adult son call for me to take him to the hospital, and then later I heard my dead uncle knocking at the door to my deck. I am 70 yr old female taking Primidone for benign essential tremor, and it does cause me to nap more often than usual. My son was at work and not in distress.
Primidone, like all medications , does have possible side effects .
The possible psychiatric effects include confusion, depressed mood or in some persons, over excitement.
One case of a type of schizophrenia has been reported but since this is one out of thousands/millions who use the medication, it is not thought to be a effect to worry about unduly.
If these hallucinations continue however, you should definitely be seen by your doctor, everyone reacts differently to medication. You may be reacting negatively.
I hope this helps
