Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
just started losartan potassium as a replacement for Spironalactone. (that Spironalactone for high blood pressure and Finasteride(Proscar) for prostate problems gave me enlarged breast and sore nipples) But now after a few weeks with the Spironalactone I and having a problem with my right eye. Feels like dryness or somethings constantly in the eye. Could this be a side effect of the Spironalactone?
Spironolactone is a diuretic that causes increased excretion of salt and water through urine. This reduces edema and blood pressure. Due to loss of fluid, dehydration and dry mouth and eyes are common.
Hence dry eyes can occur as a side effect of the drug.Artificial tear drops can be used 2 to 3 times a day. But it is essential to visit your ophthalmologist in order to rule out any eye defects.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
