What Are The Side Effects Of Synthroid And Levothyroxine?

hi!! what are the different side effects between Synthroid and a Generic from Mylan (Levothyroxine)? consider, if needed, a 65 yr old male with hypothroidism and overall good health, taking 88mcg. (1 side effect is the difference in cost!) Thank you.

Hi,

Synthroid is the brand name of synthetic thyroxine or generic levothyroxine. Generic levothyroxine is usually well absorbed in the body than Synthroid and absorption rate is the difference. Side effects are same and side effects of Synthroid as well as levothyroxine are nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, changes in weight, changes in appetite, changes in menstrual periods, fever, muscle pain, leg cramps, chest pain, sweating, irritability, nervousness, hair loss and many more. But these side effects are mild and usually go away over time. But if these side effects persist for long or bother you then you should consult your doctor first for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
