Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thorazine is an older drug--and has been known to have many long term adverse side effects. An Individual I know is taking this medication. He has not been tested for Cytochrome P450 (enzymes also function to metabolize potentially toxic compounds, including drugs and products of endogenous metabolism such as bilirubin, principally in the liver. The Human Genome Project has identified 57 human genes coding for the various cytochrome P450 enzymes.P450). This person but has a child that has been tested and is known to have this---what do you know about how to getting tested, as individual is currently institutionalized and on a medication, so rarely used---what is known about this medication and the P450 implications. Also concerning is poly-medicating with Zyprexia. Thank you.
Thorazine is composed of 'Chlorpromazine', which is primarily used to treat psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. Long-term side effects include weight gain, jaundice, skin discoloration, leucopenia, increased blood glucose levels, involuntary movements and convulsions.
Chlorpromazine may deposit in ocular tissues when taken in high dosages for long periods of time leading to clouding of the lens or cornea in the eyes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ashakiran S,
