What Are The Side Effects Of Tramadol?

I have decreased my fluoxetine to 20mg a day. I recently sprained my ankle and was given Tramadol 50mg to take as needed. I have been reading that there are significant reactions. My medications are on file at the doctor s office. I was wondering why they would prescribe something that could cause a serious interaction.

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
All drugs do have side effects. However, your Doctor will evaluate the risks and benefits before prescribing.Combining Tramadol and fluoxetine can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome.Symptoms of this condition may include: confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
I will suggest you take the drug as prescibed by your Doctor since you may not be too high doses. It will help in your pains. You will have to report to your Doctor immediately for evaluation if you witness any of the above symtoms
Hope this will you
Wish you good health
