Valprain (
valproic acid) has been prescribed to your daughter for seizure. She is fainting because of seizure. Its common side effects are headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, increased appetite, weight gain, somnolence, dizziness, fatigue, hypothermia, hyperammonaemic
encephalopathy, liver toxicity, and
hallucinations. As she has been taking it since a long time she has become accustomed to it. Serious common side effect is liver toxicity, which is observed more commonly in children less than 2 years old. Other serious toxicities are pancreatitis and
thrombocytopenia (low
platelet count) which are very rare and are observed at high doses. These side effects can be prevented by laboratory monitoring.
Advice
1. Continue Valparin as suggested by your doctor
