What Are The Side Effects Of Viazem Xl Overdose?

H . I have been taking Viazem Xl 120mg & simvastation 40mg for years & today I found out that simvastatin should have only been prescribed at 20mg with Viazem xl. Can you please tell me what problems this will have caused m . I have a rectal tumour & start chemo radiation next Tuesday before hopefully having surgery to remove the cancer. I have already had a colostomy fitted!!

Hello,

The reason Simvastatin shouldn't be used at high doses is because Viazm increases its effect. So consequences should be those related to Simvastatin, which can cause muscle damage (expressed with muscle pain and increased muscle enzyme levels on blood tests) or liver damage with raised liver enzymes on blood tests.

If you haven't had any muscle pain and blood tests are normal you may be reassured that there haven't been any consequences, even if there are such changes, they are reversible with interruption of treatment so no reason for panic. I remain at your disposal for other questions.
