Hi,

Warf 5 is an anticoagulant, which is used to thin the blood, in order to prevent blood clots. This a very important and standard treatment after having heart valve replacement as you have. It is extremely important that you take this medicine as your doctor has prescribed, because it prevents you from making blood clots and having a stroke (brain attack).

The most common side effects to Warf 5 is increased bleeding if you get a cut, but also more easily getting bruises and marks when you bump into things.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
