Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 63 year old, physically healthy female who has been on 150 mg daily dose of Effexor for 7 years. It has definitely helped me but has also left me feeling detached from my environment. I would like to try Zoloft? Is this possible and what are the possible side effects of this switchover.
Effexor is composed of 'Venlafaxine', which is an antidepressant of the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor class. It increases the concentrations of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine in the body and the brain. Zoloft is composed of 'Sertraline', which is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor class. Common side effects with use of Zoloft include diarrhea, sexual dysfunction, and troubles with sleep. Although the effectiveness is similar to other antidepressants, it would be advisable to consult your doctor for clinical evaluation and proper dosage, before you change the medication.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
