Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 55 years old and have not yet gone into menopause. I have had severe ongoing menstural bleeding for a year or more now and my OB/GYN (after testing) has recommended that the best course of action is to do a Hysteroscopic Endometrial Ablatian and insert an IUD. My question is, what is the point of the IUD? What are the side effects? Thank you. Patti
Endometrial ablation is for your heavy bleeds. IUDs are very effective and almost free from side effects, only concern is in some females it causes dysfunctional uterine bleeding. If your family is complete why don't you go for a hysterectomy?
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
