What Are The Side Effects Of Appendix Removal?

over 4 weeks ago my appendix ruptured and it was drained but not removed. CT shows that infection is gone, but it is still inflamed. What could happen if it isn t removed? I have night sweats and on and off periods of diarrhea. My infectious disease doctor had asked me about those symptoms but not sure why. No abdominal pain, fever or vomiting. I get chilled easily but not with fever that I am aware of.

Hello. Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic. Appendix is a vestigeal organ in the human body. It is a finger like tube connected to caecum which is a part of large intestine. Appendix plays a major role in herbivores but does not play any significant role in human digestion. An acute appendicitis is treated by surgical excision. However if the appendix bursts the surgeons might wait for infection to get controlled with antibiotics for 6-8weeks and then appendicectomy is done known as interval appendicectomy. A ruptured appendix might cause diarrhea, nausea vomiting if abscess is formed. However eventually when appendix will be removed there will be no functional disturbance to your life. Hope I helped you out. Thanks.
