Hi,
Depo Provera is a form of progesterone. It is a female hormone used as a
contraception to prevent pregnancy. Your daughter's doctor might recommend Depo Provera, if she doesn't want to take a birth control pill every day. It is possible to lactate when someone is not pregnant and there are a great many causes. Lot of drugs, including Depo Provera, may occasionally lead to a milky discharge from the nipple. The technical name for this phenomenon is galactorrhea. Depo Provera appears to elevate prolactin levels which may explain why it may increase quantity of discharge from nipples and it also associated with
prolonged periods of amenorrhea and galactorrhea after administration.
It can cause breast tenderness and enlargement too. Other side effects of Depo Provera are nausea, vomiting,
abdominal bloating, indigestion, heartburn, headache, dizziness, sweating,
vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding, acnes, impaired
wound healing, allergic reactions etc. If these side effects persist for long, then the patient should consult her doctor promptly for medical attention.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
