How best can I approach my doctor for her to understand that I think I would prefer the surgery.I don t know if I m making something out of nothing but I do know I can t go back to being big fat Mary. Hi,

Iodine or surgery are the two options for an overactive thyroid. If you are taking Lithium, the thyroid problem may be related to Lithium, so let your doctor know about it.

Regarding the best option, surgery or iodine, you should be very open with your doctor as what you want, and she would explain to you as which suits you. The last decision will be yours. Weight gain is not enormous with iodine and is not very common, so if this is the only reason, you need not to worry a lot. Still, you can discuss the options with her.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
