Hello,
Olimelt (olanzapine) is an 'atypical'
antipsychotic medication prescribed to treat a variety of mental disorders such as
schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorders.
Its common side effects include
postural hypotension, weight gain, sleepiness, abnormal muscle movements, increase in body fat and
cholesterol, dry mouth and decreased
white blood cell counts (which may increase the risk of infection).
If olimet is stopped suddenly symptoms like sweating, unable to sleep, tremor, anxiety or nausea and vomiting might occur. So, its dose should be gradually reduced before stopping the treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
